PACEP Update on HB 1862 – Balance BillingPACEP has continued to engage with the leadership of the Pennsylvania House on HB 1862 on balance billing. PACEP supports protecting patients from balance billing while ensuring that there is an equitable relationship between emergency physicians and insurers. Unfortunately, HB 1862 in its current form does not achieve those goals.
Through your efforts and that of the entire Pennsylvania medical community, Pennsylvania House leadership is recognizing the need for a deliberative approach to this issue. When the House returns to session on January 13th, PACEP anticipates that there will be multiple discussions on HB 1862 and related bills impacting EMS (HB 1347) and dentists (HB 564). Based on these deliberations, there may be a rapid need for outreach by all PACEP members to ensure that balance billing legislation takes a proper form.
I would ask you to continue to familiarize yourself with PACEP’s messaging and supporting materials on this legislation and be prepared to respond to a call to action that may be needed in the near future.
Thank you for your PACEP membership and your service to all Pennsylvanians in need of emergency care. Please do not hesitate to contact PACEP at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
