PEP-PAC Challenge - A Message from Michael Turturro, MD, FACEP
What is a 2-hour investment to your future?

Emergency Medicine is under attack!
Not by other specialties or hospital administrators, but by legislators who have been fed misinformation from the insurance industry as well as anecdotal stories from constituents about “surprise bills” from alleged greedy emergency physicians. While ignoring the fact that we care for everyone at any time regardless of their ability to pay, emergency physicians have been vilified for what amounts to lousy insurance coverage for emergency care. It’s a matter of what is best for patients, not what is best for physicians!
And it doesn’t stop there. Legislators in our Commonwealth are attempting to create barriers to initiating MAT treatment in the ED for opioid use disorder as well as barriers to appropriate treatment of pain, to institute burdensome requirements for reporting drug overdoses based on information which is not available to us during an ED visit, to allow “venue shopping” in malpractice claims, to allow nurse practitioners to function independently without physician collaboration….the list goes on.
News flash: We are accustomed to making decisions based on careful evaluation and implementation of scientific evidence. Legislators often act on anecdote over evidence.
Do you think our legislators understand our role in the health care system?
The Pennsylvania Emergency Physicians Political Action Committee (PEP-PAC) is the engine that drives our voice in Harrisburg. Without fuel in the engine, we will get nowhere. We need your help to do what is best for the provision of emergency care to our patients throughout the Commonwealth.
PEP-PAC needs every emergency physician in the Commonwealth to invest 2 hours in providing fuel to the engine. If you cannot donate your time, then please donate your pay. It’s a very simple formula: Take your hourly wage, multiply X 2, then send that amount to PEP-PAC either by check or via the link at www.pacep.net/PEP-PAC.
Please act today. This is an investment in your future.
