PEP-PAC Challenge - A Message from Priyanka Lauber, DO
A SPECIAL MESSAGE FOR OUR RESIDENT MEMBERS
Dear PACEP Resident Members:
My name is Priyanka Lauber, and I am a third-year Emergency Medicine (EM) resident at Lehigh Valley Health Network in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. I am also on the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians (PACEP). (To view Priyanka's video message, click here)
Physicians in training are in an area of juxtaposition. We are physicians, but often feel we lack the innate power to enact change usually reserved for attending physicians. Resident physicians need to know that there are avenues that exist to empower residents to advocate for positive change.
An important way to favorably affect your profession is a donation to the Pennsylvania Emergency Physicians Political Action Committee (PEP-PAC). This PAC receives contributions from our over 1900 members which are used to support state elected officials who understand and support our mission.
For instance, for the past five years, PACEP has been battling on the issue of balance billing/surprise medical bills. We fight proposals that favor insurance companies over patients' access to care and physician reimbursement. Just this particular legislation that we have been involved with has the potential to reduce our salaries by twenty to thirty percent! And that is just one of the many issues on which PACEP is engaging to improve the professional lives of all emergency physicians.
Your PEP-PAC donation is an investment in our collective professional future. From residents, we seek anything you're able to invest with the average ask of $25. At the end of the week, we will have a raffle for all residents that donate $25 or more with a potential to win a $100 gift card.
Please donate at www.pacep.net/PEP-PAC. Thank you for everything you do to ensure all Pennsylvanians have the emergency health care system we need and deserve.
